Senior Health Primary Care
As an older adult, your health needs are unique and constantly changing. It’s important to have a primary care doctor who specializes in health care for problems affecting older adults.
At Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Plymouth, our doctors are specially trained to help patients 65 years and older. We are experts in diagnosing, treating, and preventing disease and disability in older adults.
Your gerontology team understands the physical, mental and emotional challenges of getting older. Our geriatricians, nurse practitioners, psychiatrists and social workers work with you, your family and caregivers to help you live your best life. Our partners at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston also provide a broad range of services — from routine exams to complex procedures.
Whether you’re a healthy and active 65-year-old or you’re facing a set of medical complications, our team offers a holistic approach to support your needs.
Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia
As you age, you may have concerns about your memory. What is a normal “senior moment” versus what may be the beginning of a more serious memory disorder? Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia are progressive diseases. They usually start slowly and get worse over time, damaging memory and other essential mental functions.
Progressive diseases we help treat include:
- Alzheimer’s disease
- Frontotemporal dementia
- Vascular impairment
We offer reassurances to our patients whose memory challenges are normal and related to aging. We use the latest and most advanced treatments to help those with more significant memory loss. We also give you access to behavioral, genetic and imaging tests to diagnose and treat a wide range of memory problems.
Behavioral, lifestyle and medication options can help with mild-to-severe memory-loss symptoms. Our team includes cognitive neurologists, psychiatrists, neuropsychologists and social workers. They work together to perform a comprehensive evaluation and develop a personalized treatment plan for your needs.
