Specialized Care for High-Risk Pregnancy

If you're pregnant or planning to become pregnant and have a condition or a job that may make your pregnancy high risk, the unknowns can be scary. Our experienced team is here for you. Our goal is for you to have the safest pregnancy possible — for both you and your baby.

Your maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) team at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Plymouth works closely with your perinatologist (high-risk pregnancy doctor), obstetrician, imaging team, genetic counselors and other specialists involved in your care. An MFM specialist is on-site weekly for high-risk patients having ultrasounds, consultations and discussions about genetic complications.

BID Plymouth providers have 24/7 access to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) MFM specialists for advice and second opinions. This means you have a greater chance of a successful outcome because our providers co-manage most high-risk pregnancies locally with MFM specialists. If needed, we can transfer you to BIDMC in Boston for the coordinated, highest level of care.

High-Risk Pregnancy and Midwife Care

As a patient at BID Plymouth, you can choose to have the support of both an obstetrician and a midwife — even if you have a high-risk pregnancy. Our obstetricians and midwives work together to ensure you have a complete understanding of your pregnancy and labor delivery options, and that your care choices are honored.

Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC)

Our team is committed to providing you with the best, safest option for your labor and delivery. If you had one cesarean delivery in the past, you can choose between a second cesarean or a VBAC. There are risks and benefits to each, and we help you make the decision that is right for you and your family.
