Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Plymouth Announces New Multi-Year Community Health Grants

Plymouth, MA – As part of its longstanding commitment to the community it serves, Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Plymouth (BID Plymouth) today announced its plans to provide $15,000 in community health grants to local non-profit organizations. BID Plymouth encourages local service organizations, schools, boards of health, coalitions and community groups and other organizations that provide services in Plymouth, Carver, Kingston, and Duxbury to submit grant applications by Friday, November 19, 2021. This is the inaugural year of this program.

The grants, which would be paid in $5,000 installments per year over three years, are part of the BID Plymouth’s Community Benefits Program and are intended to fund evidence-based or evidence-informed programs that address one of the following community health priorities:

• Behavioral Health (Substance Abuse & Mental Health) – Examples of programs that may be considered for funding include: efforts to increase access to screening, education, referral, and patient engagement services for those identified with or at-risk of mental health and substance use issues in clinical and non-clinical settings; reduce risky behaviors in youth through programming and reducing elder health isolation and depression.
• Social Determinants of Health – Programs that specifically address housing and/or food insecurity are eligible for grant funding in the 2021 grant cycle. Examples of programs that may be considered for funding include efforts to increase the number of adults and children with access to healthy food; providing nutrition education and food access to under resourced communities; increasing housing stability and decreasing the number of people who struggle with financial insecurity/rent insecurity.

Applicants may also submit programs that are not cited specifically as examples above, as long as the grant program addresses one of the noted priority areas (social determinants of health, specifically food and/or housing insecurity and behavioral health, including substance use or mental health programs). All proposed programs must be evidence-based or evidence-informed.

In addition, programs should target disproportionately affected populations, which are defined as under-resourced communities, and groups experiencing disadvantages due to other significant socio-economic factors.
