Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Plymouth Advances State-of-the-Art Robotic Surgery
New Technology Will Further Opportunities For World-Class Care For Patients
Plymouth, MA — Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth (BID Plymouth) has furthered its robotic-assisted surgery program with the addition of the state-of-the-art da Vinci Xi surgical system, reinforcing its commitment to advancing innovations in healthcare technology to deliver extraordinary care to its patients.
“We are proud to be at the forefront of cutting-edge surgical innovation,” said Kyle Trecartin, MD, chief medical officer, BID Plymouth. “We are firmly committed to investing in new ways to offer surgeries that are safe and effective for our patients and enhance the overall patient experience.”
BID Plymouth will begin with offering robotic general surgery and gynecology surgeries including inguinal hernia repair, ventral hernia repair, colon procedures, esophageal and reflux procedures, procedures on the ovaries and uterus, and gallbladder surgery.
Robotic-assisted surgery enables physicians to employ the use of robotic arms through small incisions, allowing for a greater range of motion and visualization compared with traditional surgery. The new technology includes advances designed to improve patient outcomes and shorten recovery time, enhance the experience for surgeons to allow for greater precision, and expand computing power and data capabilities.
“We are excited to expand our robotic surgery program, which will allow us to deliver more enhanced procedures right here in the community,” said Kathryn Schlosser MD, surgeon, BID Plymouth. “With more precise surgeries, we hope to improve the recovery process for patients.”
This new technology is the second surgical robot at the hospital. BID Plymouth’s first robot is used exclusively for orthopedic surgeries.
