Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Plymouth Receives $1 Million from the CARES Act, Plymouth County
The Funds Will Go Toward Reimbursing the Hospital for Increased Costs Incurred During the Pandemic
Plymouth, MA – At a check presentation this morning, Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Plymouth received more than one million dollars from Plymouth County via the CARES Act to reimburse increased costs due to the COVID pandemic.
“Our hospital, like most hospitals throughout the state and the country, have been financially challenged by the increased staffing demands during COVID as our teams work tirelessly to care for our community,” said Jim Jenkins, chief financial officer, Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Plymouth. “We are beyond grateful to Plymouth County for supporting us with this disbursement of CARES Act funds.” The check was accepted on behalf of the hospital by Jenkins and Kenneth Fosdick, chair of the Board of Trustees at BID Plymouth.
The CARES Act, an acronym for Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, was signed into law in March of 2020 and provided $150 billion to states during the pandemic. Plymouth County received approximately $90 million which it allocated to its 27 municipalities based on census numbers for COVID expenses. With approximately three million dollars remaining, Plymouth County distributed the funds equally between its three area hospitals, including BID Plymouth.
“My fellow commissioners Greg Hanley, Jared Valanzola and I are pleased to provide this money to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth,” said Sandra Wright, Chair of the Plymouth County Commission. “Our entire community witnessed the dedication and professionalism with which hospital staff took care of our residents. It feels good to give back to them.”
BID Plymouth intends to use the funds as reimbursement for salary costs to due to increased staffing to care for patients with COVID, as well as for increased medical supplies and PPE.
“We are fortunate to be able to support the hospital and our front-line caregivers with these funds,” said Tom O’Brien, Treasurer of Plymouth County. “We recognize that not only do our cities and towns need the financial aid, but so do our hospitals. Hopefully, this helps give back to the people who gave so much during our time of need.”
