Lung Cancer Screening

Early detection of lung cancer through screening can save lives. At BID Plymouth, we offer low-dose CT scans for eligible patients at high risk for lung cancer. Review the guidelines below to see if you may qualify.

Who Qualifies for a Low-Dose CT Scan?

Current or past cigarette smokers who do not have symptoms and meet certain eligibility criteria:

  • Age between 50 and 77 years (some insurance carriers will cover screening in patients up to 80 years of age)
  • At least a 20 pack-year smoking history (examples: 1 pack per day for 20 years or 2 packs per day for 10 years)
  • Current cigarette smoker or quit within the last 15 years
  • Prior to initial screening scan, the patient is required to have a documented Shared Decision Making Visit with their provider
